Top three reads of 2018, by Lena’s
Notebook
I’ll be honest – I have not read as much as I wanted to this
year, however what I have read has been entirely amazing. Here are three reads
that really wowed me, plus at the bottom, book covers of other books I have
enjoyed J
Tattooist of Auschwitz
– Heather Morris
This book had me in tears; from the descriptions of
mistreatment of human beings, from the horrifying conditions prisoners of Nazi
Concentration camps endured, and from the ability to love even during the most horrible
times. Based on a true story, the Tattooist of Auschwitz is the most harrowing
yet uplifting book I read in 2018, a truly painful book to read that left me
still thinking about it long after I had turned the final page.
Eleanor Oliphant is
Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman (Proof copy read and reviewed in 2017, re-read
in 2018)
This book I read last year in 2017 as I was given a proof
copy – but re-read this year because I honestly enjoyed it so much. Eleanor
Oliphant is such a memorable main character. Her attitudes to life develops in
the loveliest and most honest ways, and as a reader we really see her grow into
a more formed person. This book teaches us not to judge so brashly and to try
to understand the depth of a person as a whole – it is one of those books that
I believe everyone has to read at some point in their lives.
One Day in December –
Josie Silver
This is the most recent book I read this year – and it’s definitely
on my best books of 2018 list. I loved the fact that the two main protagonists
met on public transport – it’s so ‘of our times’, so relatable, and really
enhances the magic of meeting ‘the one’ in a busy city setting. This book got
me feeling so emotional at times, and as a 20-something myself, I felt it
really spoke to me about relationships in this modern age. It’s definitely the
most realistic romance book I’ve read this year, and for that, I loved it even
more.
So those are my best three reads, but they are not the only commendable books. There are so many good books that I have also enjoyed whilst on a blogging hiatus, and here they are!

I'm always so amazed by the top three book sof the year posts because I think they're so difficult to narrow down so many great books. Eleanor Oliphant has been on my TBR for the entire year and I still haven't read it. Kinda sad about it but hopefully in the new year :D
